Position Paper Guidelines
All delegates who wish to be considered for awards must write a position paper. Position papers will be submitted the day of the conference. This paper should cover the history of the problem as your country sees it, how this problem affects your country, the past actions that your nation has taken with regard to the issues, and finally what initiatives your country expects to be part of. This should not include any kind of pre-written resolution, but rather be a sketch of the general ideas that your nation would support. The recommended length is 1-2 pages, 12 pt font Times New Roman, a heading including the committee name, topic, country name, school name, and delegate name in the upper left hand corner of the page, along with an MLA bibliography.
Research Tips
Your position papers should constitute the results of extensive research both on your country and the issue at hand. It is very important that you portray the position of your nation accurately, and present solutions that are viable in the real world. The chairs have prepared background papers on the topics, and those should give you a basic framework for the research, however it is not sufficient to use only the information in the background papers. It is expected that you use reliable sources, and cite them correctly in your papers. To help you we have included links to several great resources both for national profiles, and issues. This should not be considered an exhaustive list, but merely a set of good jumping-off points for deep research.
